The Lineage OS team today provided an update on the status of their official builds, the devices and versions of Android they will support, and more. The official download portal, install stats page, and wiki for Lineage OS are now live as well, though they may be sparse on content. As for the official Lineage OS builds, the team notes that it will be following a weekly release cycle for the builds to be nice to the hardware donated to them, with the first official builds scheduled to go roll out from this weekend. This means that unlike CyanogenMod nightlies in which a new build was released daily, the Lingeage OS build servers will only churn out builds for all supported devices once a week. In addition to a ‘weekly build, there will also be an ‘experimental’ LineageOS build that will allow one to upgrade to the ROM from CyanogenMod without having to wipe their device. The ‘experimental’ tag is to indicate that the data migration might not work properly, and users will ultimately have to wipe their phone to install Lineage OS. The experimental builds will only be available for all supported devices for two months, with users required to flash the stable weekly Lineage OS build on top of the experimental build post the data migration. This is because the experimental builds will also feature an experimental banner as a reminder that it is not meant to be used a daily driver. Another important things to note about Lineage OS ROM is that it will come with root disabled by default, and users who want root access will have to flash a SuperSu zip file separately. Additionally, all official LineageOS builds will be signed with a private key for authentication and signature permission control purposes.
