Oneplus 5 To Come With Snapdragon 835 Chipset And Improved Touch Latency

With the impending launch of the OnePlus 5, OnePlus has now started revealing information about key aspects of the device to build hype around it. Today, the company’s CEO Pete Lau confirmed in a post that the OnePlus 5 will come with a Snapdragon 835 chipset.

The post from Lau talks about how the OnePlus 5 will offer great performance, with the Snapdragon 835 chipset setting the foundation for it. In addition to the chipset, Lau also revealed that OnePlus is working on improving the touch latency of the display on the OnePlus 5. Touch latency is not an area where most OEMs lay great emphasis on, but it ends up making a huge difference in real world use. The OnePlus 3 was discovered to have poor touch latency, which was fixed by the company in an update this year. To improve the touch latency on the 5, OnePlus made use of a high-speed camera to track screen movements and measure input speeds. They had to do this because the industry as a whole does not lay great emphasis on touch latency and there is no precedent set whatsoever. Additionally, to further improve the “overall feeling of smoothness,” OxygenOS on the OnePlus 5 will come with a new way to manage apps. The ones you use daily will be automatically loaded into memory so that they are “ready to go” when you switch on your OnePlus 5. Similarly, the apps that you use rarely will be deprioritised so that they do not affect system performance.
