OnePlus today unveiled the OnePlus 6, its flagship handset for 2018 and the successor to the OnePlus 5T from last year. Like any other major flagship phone released in 2018, the OnePlus 6 also features a notched display and a Snapdragon 845 chipset. Most of the key specifications of the handset were revealed before its official announcement today by OnePlus itself. The handset features a 6.28-inch 19:9 aspect ratio notched Optic AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The notch is used by OnePlus to house the front-facing camera and other necessary sensors and the earpiece. The bottom chin on the handset is slightly smaller than what was found on the OnePlus 5T thereby giving it an almost bezel-less look from the front. In term of design, the OnePlus 6 features an all-glass front and back sandwiching a metallic chassis. It uses Gorilla Glass 5 at the front and back for improved durability. It is also “daily water resistance.” Despite coming with a glass back, there’s no wireless charging support on the handset. The fingerprint scanner is located at the back and can unlock the handset in just 0.2 seconds.
At the rear, there’s a dual-camera setup. The primary sensor is a 16MP f/1.7 shooter, while the second one is a 20MP f/1.7 shooter. The primary camera is now 19 percent larger and features 1.22um pixels which helps improve its low-light performance. Both sensors offer OIS and EIS and work together to offer Portrait mode and hybrid zoom. The former mode has also been improved and now you can click multiple portrait photos without having to wait in between. You can also add some effects to your portrait photos to help them stand out. At the front, there is a 16MP shooter which is also used for face unlock. It will also gain the ability to shoot Portrait photos with a future software update. The OnePlus 6 is also capable of shooting slow-mo videos at [email protected] for up to a minute. It is not as fast as the Super Slow-mo seen on the Galaxy S9 and Huawei’s P20 Pro, but it is still 2x times slower than the slow-motion mode found in other devices. Other specs of the OnePlus 6 include 6/8GB RAM, 64/128/256GB of storage, support for 40 LTE bands, 4×4 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Alert Slider, and dual-SIM connectivity. The phone is powered by a 3300mAh battery and features Dash Charge as well. The OnePlus 6 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with OxygenOS 5.1 on top of it. One of the highlights of the latest version of OxygenOS 5.1 is that it completely ditches the navigation bar in favor of gestures as seen on previous OxygenOS betas for the OnePlus 5T. There will also be a preview build of Android P available for OnePlus 6 in the coming week. The handset will be available in Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White colors. The Silk White variant will be limited edition though. The handset will be available from May 22nd in India, most of Europe, and the United States. The limited-edition Silk White will launch on June 5. The OnePlus 6 is priced at $529 (€519) for the base variant. The variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage is priced at $579, with the 256GB variant coming in at $629.
