Ahead of its launch sometime next month, OnePlus has been heavily teasing the OnePlus 6. Today, the company’s CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the handset will come with a glass back. A previous teaser from the company led many to believe the OnePlus 6 would come with a ceramic back.  However, Pete Lau’s announcement over at OnePlus forum confirmed that the company is using a glass back on its upcoming smartphone. Providing more details about the design of the handset, Pete says it continues to come with their “signature horizon line and precise curve to the back of the device.” The glass design of the OnePlus 6 is based on the idea of creating a “sense of value” and “premium hand-feel.” While glass is definitely more fragile than the metal back found in previous phones, it comes with its own set of advantages as well. Here’s how Pete explains them: OnePlus says that the rear glass panel of the OnePlus 6 comes with five printed layers of nanotech coating — a first in the smartphone industry. This helps in giving it a stronger depth impression. One major advantage of glass over metal on smartphones is that it allows for wireless charging. However, Pete does not mention anything about it in his announcement. Considering that OnePlus 6 will come with the company’s famed Dash Charge technology, it is unlikely that we will see the handset feature wireless charging. Looking at how OnePlus is hyping the glass back of the OnePlus 6, I’d say it would come with a finish similar to what we have seen on the P20 Pro. This would help the phone separate itself from other smartphones in the market featuring a glass back. While not announced, OnePlus is expected to unveil the OnePlus 6 in May.
