The original six Earth’s Mightiest Heroes get their individual EW covers for Avengers: Endgame. The culmination of everything that has transpired in the MCU for the last 10 years, the Joe and Anthony Russo-directed and Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely-written blockbuster is set to hit theaters all over the world in less than three weeks. Anticipation is only intensifying with demand for tickets clogging online retailing sites and breaking numerous pre-sales box office records. But at the center of this massive story is the founding heroes of the franchise - Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

Last year’s Avengers: Infinity War was told from the perspective of the franchise’s big villain, Thanos (Josh Brolin), as he set out to collect the Infinity Stones and wipe put half of life in the universe - which he achieved. This time, the focus shifts to the good guys with the original six alongside surviving heroes like Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) hatching a plan to avenge the fallen against the Mad Titan. As the debut of the film nears, there’s a bittersweet feeling to it knowing that this potentially might be the last Marvel film fans will see the beloved core crew on the big screen for a mission.

In honor of the the group of heroes and the actors who play them who kicked off this massive interconnected comic book movie universe comes six EW covers in celebration of the upcoming release of Endgame. Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye (now Ronin), and Captain America all don their respective garbs for the Phase 3 capper. However, Marvel Studios continues to hide the Hulk with Ruffalo’s spread featuring Banner instead. Check out the images below:

Marvel Studios is banking on the nostalgia factor by reassembling the core Avengers to take on Thanos, especially with the assumption that they’re travelling back in time, specifically to the events of the Battle of New York from 2012’s The Avengers which was their first team mission. It was a clever move for them to end this 22-film journey with the same people who started it. It’s no secret that Infinity War left some of the core six Avengers behind with Captain America and Black Widow having minimal screen time, while Hawkeye skipped the affair altogether. Aside from Thanos, newer characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy; Wanda and Vision; as well as Doctor Strange were prominent instead. But now that majority of them were dusted at the end of the film, those who had the shorter end of the stick in last year’s ensemble flick can have their time under the spotlight.

In addition, with the a thinner cast of characters and a longer runtime (three hours), Avengers: Endgame can spend more time with each of these heroes, which is extremely important if this will indeed be the last time fans will see them together on the big screen. Since they’ve been around for a decade now, the public should have to the time to properly say goodbye to them in order to move forward with MCU’s next chapter. Aside from the heroes, these actors have been synonymous to their roles and they’re beloved as much as their characters. Regardless of what the future lies ahead for the core six in the film, they will always be remembered as the set of people that launched this massive franchise that changed the way Hollywood does movies.
